Our Story
JerMar Warriors Sickle Cell Alliance, Inc. was created from a powerful family bond and a shared journey with Sickle Cell Disease. The organization was founded by Paula Knowles in honor of her bonus son, Jermaine “Jer” Knowles, whom she loved as her own, and inspired by the lifelong journey of her daughter, Marissa “Mar” Knowles, who lives with Sickle Cell Disease.
Jermaine and Marissa shared a bond stronger than the disease they both carried. Their love, laughter, and resilience became the foundation of JerMar Warriors. Though Jermaine transitioned on July 21, 2022, his legacy continues to live on through Marissa and through every warrior and family we serve.
What began as a personal family story grew into a mission of purpose. JerMar Warriors was created to ensure that no warrior feels alone and that every family affected by Sickle Cell Disease has access to education, advocacy, and community support.
Today, JerMar Warriors Sickle Cell Alliance, Inc. stands as a living tribute to Jermaine’s life and Marissa’s strength. Our work is rooted in compassion, unity, and service as we raise awareness, provide resources, and create safe spaces where warriors feel seen, supported, and empowered.
Rooted in family and inspired by resilience, JerMar Warriors stands as a symbol of unity, service, and hope for the Sickle Cell community.
